Role:
The candidate will champion and drive TD AMERITRADE's Chief Information Officer-sponsored architecture rationalization efforts aimed at delivering services oriented architecture while improving availability, scalability, and flexibility. The candidate will be the thought leader for TD AMERITRADE's applications and have ownership of its design, cost and performance. He or she will participate in all aspects of high-level architectural reconstruction and re-factoring, including technology standardization and modernization.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing and overseeing the implementation of high volume, high availability financial and ecommerce transaction processing systems. Further, he or she will have led the migration from vertically scalable systems to horizontally scalable ones based on open source and commodity hardware.
The candidate must provide vision with a broad generalist perspective supported by deep technical competence in horizontally scalable systems and application development. He or she should also have a strong understanding infrastructure including (but not necessarily limited to) relational database systems, hardware, operating systems and networks.
The candidate must quickly deliver results by positively influencing the technology organization, garner technical respect with the ability to challenge strategies and technical direction in a non-adversarial way. The candidate will also provide guidance to the Application Development departments in the ongoing implementation of TD AMERITRADE's strategic Service-Oriented Architecture deployment, the migration of all existing systems into that environment, and the drawdown of the legacy systems.

Requirements:
# Proven record delivering high transaction e-commerce designs and systems
# In-depth experience architecting cost effective fault tolerant systems
# Excellent knowledge of the following technologies, products and services: Java, JBoss and BEA, Linux, WebLogic
# Object oriented development
# Service oriented application architecture
# Organizational agility in a matrix management environment
# Excellent verbal and written skills
# Strong quantitative analysis skills
# Strong presentation skills
# Excellent attention to detail
# Securities industry knowledge, online retail brokerage, and/or advisory experience a plus
