Detailed Description
Position Summary:
E*Trade Financial is looking for a Principal level engineer to help create and maintain UNIX based servers that power the E*Trade Financial business lines. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and goal oriented, has the ability to handle interruptions while fluidly switching between several projects, and has a work smart not harder approach.
In addition, the candidate will participate in research, design and implementation of various tools and technologies that enhance and/or automate different areas within our UNIX Infrastructure environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Work within the group maintaining and developing Infrastructure:
Develop and extend tools to maintain and monitor deployments.
Package and patch integration and management
Assess, document, present, and mentor project assignments.
Evaluate and recommend commercial and open source software.
Escalation point to answer system related questions.
Train and Mentor team members, System Administrators and operators.
Provide production support
Job Requirements
Minimum Professional and Technical Skills:
* 7+ years experience with UNIX.
* 5+ years experience with Linux.
* 4+ years running large production systems. (Several hundred)
* Working knowledge of loadbalancers (Citrix Netscalers)
* Working knowledge of webservers, DNS, Open LDAP, NIS,
* Mail/SMTP, NTP, NFS, networking, cluster filesystems, package distribution
* Working knowledge of volume management and cluster services.
* Solid H/W understanding of SPARC and x86 based systems.
* Understanding of networking technologies, 10 gig Ethernet, Infiniband, FCOE.
* Strong understanding of system & architecture scalability challenges.
* Strong Programming/scripting skills (Korn, Perl, Python, C).
* Extensive knowledge of Oracle database including Oracle RAC.
Desirable Skills:
* Storage management and troubleshooting.
* Working knowledge in MySQL a plus.
* Understanding of database segmentation and multi-master replication
* A degree in computer science or a related field.
* Extensive programming background in any applicable language.
* Publication within the field of system administration
Minimum Education, Certification, Training:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science
Desired Linux and Solaris training
